Cool quotes:
11/23/2020 I’m better when I focus on what I’m doing instead of what I’m missing.
12/23/2020 The Lord loves hard work; the Lord loves effort
12/23/2020 I can open the door, but I can’t push them through.
2/7/2021 Find something to be grateful for every day. -God is in control and He will bless us if we stick close to Him
-I don’t feel ready to leave Pasco, but nonetheless I will do what the Lord wants me to do. I might not fee ready to teach the gospel in Spanish, but what I do know is the Lord has someone for me to teach.
- it’s always darkest before the light.
- 3/8/21- I am so glad I am on a mission right now at this exact time and place. I can’t think of a better place to be than here in Basin City serving the people, trying to learn Spanish, and being 100% focused on my Savior, Jesus Christ.
3/8/21- missionaries give up 2 years because we love Jesus Christ and through Him we can do all things and I know I am going to do whatever the Lord wants me to do here.
3/15/21- 1st Nephi 9:6. in response to his feeling overwhelmed by Elder Williams possibly leaving and him having to take over the area with so little Spanish etc. he went to lock up March madness bracket and heard “pick up your scriptures instead”. He did and read that scripture.
4/19/2021- “Being a missionary is amazing because we get to help people feel joy every day. I love being a missionary.”
5/31,2021- “It’s game time and we are in the 4th quarter and time is ticking away. I feel a huge sense of urgency to keep this work going and bring Heavenly Father’s children home.”
6/14/21- “I’ve been thinking of how God blesses us individually… my time in Basin City hasn’t been that long but my time with elder Williams was such a blessing because he taught me the area and my time with elder Ashton has been a blessing because my testimony has grown a lot. Every day is a blessing. I know God wants us to be happy.
8/22/2021- I’m so glad to be here with elder Brown. I can tell you, I’ve never been happier; after sharing a message with this guy, I realized how awesome it is to be a missionary.

It was so peaceful to see him baptized and recieve the Holy Ghost. No doubt in my mind that this feeling overcomes any hard day that will come (Javier) 9/2021

Even though there are hard days, it is so good. I love you all and want to testify again and Jesus Christ lives, He knows us. He loves us and has a personal interest in each of us.

10/11/21 chat: “mom, why does time have to go so fast?” (Getting ready to go to Mexico, loving his mission)

I love the gospel of Jesus Christ with my whole heart. I am sad to leave Washington but excited to see who the Lord has prepared for me in Mexico and I'll do what he wants me to do.

Elder Carson Reiley
Mexico Villahermosa Mission

Area: Villahermosa
Companions: Elder Villanueva, Assistant

Notes: spent a year in Kennewick Washington mission because of Covid.
Top Ten Things I’ve learned in first year:
1. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, anyone and everyone can change.
2. God has a step by step plan for each of us.
3. Trusting the Lord in every situation, even when we don’t know, is when we’ll receive the most blessings.
4. Heavenly Father wants His children home.
5. It is 100% possible to be a Forever Faithful member of the Church
6. The Book of Mormon has every answer and all teachings of Jesus Christ.
7. Doing things the Lord’s way is always the right way.
8. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of truth and light and especially hope.
9. We have everything we need to be happy in this life.
10. Jesus Christ is all of our best friend. He gave His life do that I could come, experience and grow.

I know we don't have to be such an amazing person to accomplish the Lord's will but it is important for us to have so much faith to do what the Lord wants.

I realized when I came on a mission how awesome it is and how important it is to be happy. I set a goal when I got to Mexico that I’d be happy every day. I look for something every day that brings me joy. Every day I find it. We have been very blessed each day. I really learned when I was withElder Carr and Elder Brown that the mission is fun. There are trials and all that but when I look for the joy, I find it.

I never realized how many miracles I’ve had in my life until I came on a mission.

Mission President (somewhere) asked president Nelson how can I get more out of missionaries? President Nelson said something to the effect of the world is getting darker and darker and in his lifetime, the only light is the gospel of Jesus Christ and people will flock to it. Be the light.

Carson- “Heavenly Father really has it dialed in!”

He was born to in humble circumstances to show the world from day 1 that He would overcome any obstacle in His path to fulfill His mission.

Remember: find joy every single day!

12/13/2021- I’ve been reading about the battles in the Book of Mormon. The Lord wanted to bless His children but He couldn’t because of their hard hearts. Mormon says something about preaching because he knows this is his last battle. I was thinking how would that be, knowing that this would be my LAST battle and what would I do? How would I feel? I try to take that motivation and apply it in my own life because we never really know when our last battle is, so we can give it our all.

It wasn’t the easiest week in Benemerito but we duck our heads and we keep pushing forward and do the work of the Lord. We also saw a lot of miracles.

I bore my testimony about my own baptism (and got a little teary) and I remember early going into the water with dad and just knowing/feeling this was what Heavenly Father wants for me. I told them I wanted them to have the same joy and happiness forever.

He sees our weaknesses for the potential we have to become through them. We aren’t defined by our weaknesses, but for who we have the potential to become because of them. The good, the bad, the peaceful, the seeming less hopeless, the joyful, the frustrating, the heart breaking- through every experience especially the hard, I firmly believe God is inviting us to do something or to become something. - I love what this missionary said because it hasn’t been the easiest here but I know I am growing into the person Heavenly Father wants me to become. I hope we can all look at the trials of 2021 and look into Christ to be healed and to know we are growing and becoming like Him.

January 3 2022- I’ve been reflecting on this last year of 2032 and how I have been a missionary every single day. I was thinking on all the things I have learned and experienced and I just love being a missionary. Even though it is hard some days, it is a privilege to represent my Savior Jesus Christ.

January 17- I was thinking of how cool and humbling it is that Heavenly Father lets us be a part of gathering His children and bringing them home. I will never forget this experience and now it is helping them stay forever faithful and also helping their family recognize the truth. I love this family and everyone here in Bene. Most days are hard but when I can be a part of this it makes it all worth it!

January 31- "I am a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ consecrated to the recovery of Israel and to let God prevail" Mission Mexico Villahermosa

February 13- quote from President Hinckley (from Matt): “In this work there must be commitment. There must be devotion. We are engaged in a great eternal struggle that concerns the very souls of the sons and daughters of God. We are not losing. We are winning. We will continue to win if we will be faithful and true. We can do it. We must do it. We will do it. There is nothing the Lord has asked of us that in faith we cannot accomplish."
I love this quote so much. Especially the part that says we will continue to win if we are faithful. What a blessing to know we are on the winning team! Also I know the Lord never will give us something to do that we can't accomplish, we only have to have the faith to do so.

February 14- the gospel of Jesus Christ really does change lives; I realized the quote from our prophet is the key that the focus of our lives is what will bring us true happiness. I love serving a mission and being part of the best work in the world.

February 21- on humility. Transferred. Hardest news ever after being certain he would stay in benemerito which he loves so much. From hisletter: I just want to share a cool experience i had when i was feeling really bummed out, i remembered Romans 1:16 that says "i am no ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is power unto salvation to everyone that belieth." It was a humbling moment to know it doesn't matter if in here or there but it is the same message and i know without a doubt Heavenly Father has more of his children who need to hear this message from me and i just want to get started with the work.

March 6-12 letter: on finding a less active family with a 9 year old that hasn’t been baptized: “it isn’t a coincidence but when the lord sees our desires to help His children come back it is obvious He will bless us with miracles and we saw so many. I know the Lord works according to diligence and because He loves His children and wants them home!” On a message from the counselor in the mission presidency at zone conference: “ every part of your mission was planned byHeavenly Father in a personal way. I was thinking about the mission and how I have been through a lot but just thinking that Heavenly Father has planned it this way to help me grow personally because He knew and knows me perfectly and I know it is so true!”

March 21 cool experience: On Thursday we were trying to get somewhere to give a blessing and we got lost and the Taxi guy had no idea where to go so we decided to get out at a corner and look at the map so we jumped out and started walking and this guy on his balcony asks us, "are you mormons?" Well mas o menos but turns out his sister is a member and he hasn't seen her in 26 years. I know the Lord answered his prayers and it was humbling to know the Lord trusts us to be his tools.
March 28- answer to uncle Matthew’s question about how to overcome feelings of disappointment and inadequacy: The mission is not easy and a lot of discouragement comes but one lesson I have learned is part of trusting Heavenly Father, but I just know that the dark comes before the light ALWAYS. When those hard days or times or experiences come, I know it is only for a little bit and Heavenly Father blesses us when we push through faithfully. I know because I have seen it in my own life. Sure, hard days will come, but looking for joy and just being happy has always helped me in those situations.
March 27- I felt so much peace (getting transferred) because I know Heavenly Father loves me and has a plan for me.

May 29- I am super happy and loving life. I can't express how happy I am and how much I love life and Mexico. I learn something everyday and know it is hard sometimes but we have joy everyday! I love Mosiah 27:37 because as missionaries we "publish peace" and "declare that the Lord reigneth.

June 11 Doctrine and Covenants 76:5 which basically says how the Lord blesses those who serve him and has mercy for those who "fear" him and I was thinking of what uncle Doug told me, "to never fear man more than God" and Mosiah 7:33. In the world there are a lot of trials and what not but the most important knowledge any person could have is to know that if we "turn to the lord with full purpose of heart, trust/serve him," that He will deliver us from whatever circumstance we are in.

June 20, 2022- … when I get home I want to spend as much time in the presence of my Heavenly Father as I can. It was a really good stake conference and I felt the spirit super strong and and I just kept thinking “how awesome is it to be on a mission.” I love this this mission the Lord has given me and wouldn’t trade it for all the money in the world.

June 27 Something that I like too is when we believe the words of the prophets and apostles we are believing the same words that Christ has said. Also President Hinkley said it was perfect and a lesson that Elder Villanueva has helped me learn. To do our best, to be exactly obedient and the Lord will work everything else out
-I testify with all my heart that Christ lives. He came to America I know it, the people here have legends of something or someone who healed their ancestors but they just don't know that it was Jesus Christ and I know He loves us

July 4, 2022
I wanted to talk about the sacrament and how it filled me (like you mentioned mom) with joy and peace Sunday. It was another tough day but just taking these 2-3 simple minutes to focus on Christ, plead forgivness, and know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are right by my side is all I need to keep on going. I know this is true and there is no where else I would rather be right now in my life!

July 17 Also we gave a training on having urgency in everything we do as missionaries because there is a lot to do but like my Uncle Matt told me, "We've had an eternity to prepare for our missions and we will have an eternity to remember it, but only 2 years to live it."
- Iknow I am learning and that the Lord still has a lot of lessons for me to learn while I'm here and I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to represent my Savior and feel his presence as if he were standing next to me.

8/1/22- Honestly it has been the best expirience of my life and to think that this is the process to become a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ is amazing (3rd Nephi 5:13). It is a privilege to suffer, have hard days, and hard things to expirience just a little of what Christ went through for me." I know it is true and that our trials and troubles will be resolved when we turn to our Savior Jesus Christ.

8/23/22 I love nephi's example of always trying to learn from the Holy ghost by looking diligently and I know when we do the same the Lord will bless us according to the desires we have.

always remember to have joy and happiness in your lives!

I was reminded by Nephi 9:6 to just trust the Lord in everything and as long as I do everything I can He has the power to take care of the rest and im grateful for that knowledge and peace it brings me.

8/29/22- I sure do love being a missionary!
The Book of Mormon has become so real for me lately, how it actually is a Book that has all the answers, if we are sad or we need help the Book of Mormon has the best advice we can get.

I can't really express how grateful I am to be on a mission. Even though it's hard sometimes, it has been the best experience of my life. I still have 3 more weeks to enjoy it but one thing I learned these week in my study is that all the experiences I have had and the person I have become on my mission is just the start. I am grateful for all of you and the blessings and miracles my Heavenly Father has given me and more than anything is the relationship with my savior Jesus Christ. I love Him and know He is real! I sure do love being a missionary!

I invite you all to read 1 Kings 17:6-9 and remember that in life sometimes the "brook" will dry up but I promise every single one of you in the name of Jesus Christ as his representative that the Lord will guide us in your own personal path so we can always have the blessings and be "fed and filled" and was the prophet Elijah.

I testify that he, (Elder Montoya) along with all of our leaders of the church, are men called of God who represent our Savior Jesus Christ. I love them and I was reminded of the amazing experience to be a missionary and a representative of my Savior Jesus Christ.

I was thinking about how many lives have been changed when they really understand the gospel and feel Jesus Christ in our lives

Well here we are and I can't believe this will be the last email I write as a missionary but I do it with a lot of love and joy because honestly I was thinking about the last 2 years and honestly it has been the best experience of my whole life and I am forever grateful for Heavenly Father and His helping me grow and have such a wonderful experience but I know it is just the beginning but I love my Savior Jesus Christ and have never felt more closer to Him in my life. It might be the hardest thing to say goodbye but how awesome is it to know that we have the hope/knowledge to see the people here again. I love my Savior, I know he is real, I know that my life as a missionary will continue and will help me be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ all my life

September 4-10, 2022

Hey everyone! Wow it was such an awesome week and it went by way to fast. We spent a lot of time visiting and trying to find new people to teach and we saw a lot of miracles! It was really awesome!

Reply: Wow good to hear that it was a busy week for you guys! I can't believe that you missed 2 days for heat I never thought that would ever happen!! Maybe it won't be such a difference from here in Mexico and at home with the heat. Super glad to hear that everything went well with Alex, Jax, and Skylar and that it was a fun time with the family! Also that is super good to hear that Stake conference went well and you had a lot of takeways. I always love hearing from our leaders and that is why I am really excited for general conference too! So it makes me happy you were able to hear from them and have a good experience and how they talked about overcoming trials and man I am super sorry to hear about Jason and Shelley and their family I am sure praying for him and hoping this new medicine works out and that they can get home and feeling good but there is a really good talk called "God is among us" i think by Elder Uchtdorf and it talks about how when we go through trials or hard things the Lord always sends us angels and these angels are just normal people but I was thinking in all the hard times of my mission and the Lord always sent me someone that gave me hope and peace so I know the Lord will bless them and all of us with these angels to help us get through all the trials we face.

As far as packing and all that I have a good plan and I will leave behind a lot of clothes because a package won't work but it should be all good. Also just a fyi this Friday I will share my testimony in our mission devotional and my family can watch so I will send you the zoom link and explain more when we talk today but just to let you know.

My Week: Well here we are and I can't believe this will be the last email I write as a missionary but I do it with a lot of love and joy because honestly I was thinking about the last 2 years and honestly it has been the best experience of my whole life and I am forever grateful for Heavenly Father and him helping me grow and have such a wonderful experience but I know it is just the beginning but I love my Savior Jesus Christ and have never felt more closer to him in my life.

So this week was super good like I said we trained Elder Pimentel in the office like normal and it was super good and we have so much fun in our trio! We had a couple of good good lessons with Ana and her mom Lorena and Ana has her baptism this weekend so lots of prayers for her but we had a lesson with the whole family Saturday and it was super awesome to talk with all of them and feel the spirit and just testifying of the greatest message on the earth!

Also on Wednesday we were working but in the night we went as a district to bishop's house and they gave us Pozole which was so good but super fun too! I sure do love all the members and missionaries here but it was really fun! Also we had the opportunity this week to have a lot of time in our area which was new but we found a few new friends and had 8 people at church so it was so cool to see the hand of the Lord in our lives and helping Elder Villanueva and I push forward until the end.

In my studies this week has to do with what you shared mom about President Nelson's quote because I am studying Jesus christ in the Topical guide and all the scriptures in the Book of Mormon and it blows me away to see and read how often the prophets testify of Christ and His doctrine and I was thinking about how many lives have been changed when they really understand the gospel and feel Jesus Christ in our lives.

I love you all and thanks for all the support you have all given me on my mission. It might be the hardest thing to say goodbye but how awesome is it to know that we have the hope/knowledge to see the people here again. I love my Savior, I know he is real, I know that my life as a missionary will continue and will help me be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ all my life. I love you all so much and see you next week!

Aug 28- Sept. 3, 2022

 Hey everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic week and were able to see a lot of miracles! It was such an amazing week for me with the Tour with Elder Montoya. It was so awesome and I received a lot of revelation from him and it was super busy and wild but really fun.

Reply: I'm super glad you all had a good week at home and you are getting in the rythem with school! That is so awesome that the boys beat Marsh by 1 I'm super glad to hear they are playing well but man I'm bummed to hear about coach Matt passing away that is pretty wild and not the greatest news to hear.

Thanks for your spiritual thoughts mom on 3rd Nephi and how cool is it that you've had such a focus on this part of the Book of Mormon. I love it too how the Lord always fulfills his promises he makes to us. I have seen that especially when we follow the guidance of our leaders and follow the inspiration, even when we don't understand it completely, we always receive the blessings from our Heavenly Father. Thanks so much and sure do enjoy reading your emails every week!

My Week: Wow it was such a crazy fast week but I will try to get as much as I can in this letter. On Tuesday we had a normal day in the office and worked then in the evening we had exchanges with Elder Gil and Elder Doughty who are really good elders in Coatza where I was so I went with Elder Gil to a park and we did phone calls and it was cool to help him out and give some advice for the area and we had a couple of good lessons but also had the craziest rain/lighting storm pass over us so we got soaked but all went well!

On Wednesday we had exchanges with the other Zone leaders in San Pedro (also my old area) and Elder Pimentel and I went with Elder Biggs (from Idaho Falls) in our area and it was so much fun and we had a lesson with Cecilia and her whole family about loving one another and the spirit was super awesome! Alos we taught Viridiana but she didn't come to church so we are gonna see what happens with her but it was an awesome day!

Thursday was a pretty good day but we were in the office getting everything ready for Elder Montoya till about 6 but it was good because the members were there to help us so it was a good time. We ended up going to our area and having something quick to eat but taught Ana and Lorena and set a baptismal date for Ana for September 17 and they both came to church yesterday with Guadalupe and that just shows you that working with MEMBERS is 100% more efficient but we are super pumped for them!

On Friday we got up and were at the office practicing our special musical number when we got a text from President Chavez saying we needed to buy tickets for missionaries to come to a meeting at 12 so we had to panic and do it but the Lord has his plan and everything went super smooth! We got to meet Elder Montoya (who is the President of the area of Mexico). We had meetings with him in the morning and then a leadership meeting in the afternoon and it was so awesome! I took a lot of notes and felt the spirit super strong. It just blows my mind how inspired he is to say the exact things we need to work on and hear as a mission. Then in the evening we had our zone conference and I was able to share my last testimony which was super crazy and makes me sad that it was my last one but what better way to go out with Elder Montoya coming. Him and his wife gave such good presentations and I learned so much. Then we had to bust to the bus station to catch our bus at 7 to go to Coatzacoalcos and do it all again saturday but we made it on time.

Saturday was a little different. We started the conference at 10 and then we said goodbye to everyone there and man that was hard to say goodbye to a few missionaries. We then had lunch together which was another huge miracle that we had enough and it was good. Then I had one of the most spiritual opportunities of my life and had a one on one interview with Elder Montoya. He asked me some questions but we just talked, we talked about my future and the biggest thing that stood out to me was when he told me, "Elder Reiley, everytime you see me, or sister Montoya, we expect you to say that you are a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Never lose your path." It was so awesome and I took a lot of notes but I testify that he, along with all of our leaders of the church, are men called of God who represent our Savior Jesus Christ. I love them and I was reminded of the amazing experience to be a missionary and a representative of my Savior Jesus Christ.

Sunday was super awesome too because we had some friends at church and made some good visits with recient converts but to finish up I invite you all to read 1 Kings 17:6-9 and remember that in life sometimes the "brook" will dry up but I promise every single one of you in the name of Jesus Christ as his representative that the Lord will guide us in our own personal path so we can always have the blessings and be "fed and filled" and was the prophet Elijah.

I love you all so much and take care and have such a good week!

August 21-27, 2022

Hey everyone! Well another week has come and gone but it was a really busy week for us so I'll see if I can get most of the things that happened in this email! Something awesome that happened was Angels baptism and we had so much support which was really awesome but I sure do love being a missionary!

Reply: I really loved your spiritual thought mom thanks for starting with that. I like that principle that Elder Jorg shared in his talk about how Heavenly Father neither Satan can obligate us to choose their way. Our agency really is the ONLY thing we can give back to our Heavenly Father and it is to take advantage of all the resources He has given us and choose to follow His path! I really love chapter 28 in 3rd Nephi too and thanks for sharing all your thoughts on that chapter and honestly all of the Book of Mormon has become so real for me lately, how it actually is a Book that has all the answers, if we are sad or we need help the Book of Mormon has the best advice we can get so thanks for sharing that with me!
Sounds like a good week too with heading back to school for the first one and it is always the hardest but I am glad you are excited to have the kids and spend time with them! I am so excited to hear about football and how they beat Jackson that´s so cool! Who is coaching with Coach Joyce? And wow I never that I would see or hear that the volleyball team won but that is super exciting!! I will keep Jason and the whole Streit family in my prayers during this hard time and I will send them a message for sure! I hope he can get feeling better soon but let me know if there is any updates on them. Thanks for everything mom and sure do love you!

My Week: Like I said it was a wild week with a lot of activities and planning but all in all it was good. We went to Palenque on Monday for our last transfer and it was super fun! Then on Tuesday is when our new companion got here. His name is Elder Pimentel from Michoacan. He was my Zone Leader when I was in Benemerito so we know each other and he is really awesome! You can imagine that this week in the office it was a lot of training and showing what things we need to do and our responsibilities but it also has been super fun to be in a trio and just enjoying our time together!

On Thursday we had a meeting with all the leadership of the mission with President and Hermana Chavez about the goals of the mission and it was super awesome! We all decided to increase our finding goals because all of Mexico increased the baptism goal to 25 baptisms every week so we have a lot to improve but it was a spiritual meeting and little by little the Lord will bless us to be able to accomplish this goal!

On Friday it was a normal day but we had Angels baptism so it was super fun! We got to the church and helped his mom decorate and had about 60 members show up and probably 10 of our friends come so it was a huge miracle and it was a good spiritual experience and Angel was so happy too! The big miracle was we are teaching Guadalupe's(recient convert) neighbor and she came to the baptism and church and told us she wants to get baptized so we are really excited and are going to work with her mom and dad so they can open up too and accept the gospel but we are so grateful for Heavenly Father and these huge miracles we see every single day!

I love you all and we'll keep in touch! If you need anything at all I will do all I can do help but thank you for all the support and have a good week!
