Hey everyone! Another week down in Mexico and it was a really good one! A lot of ups and downs but everything is really good. Thanks for the email and I am glad everything is going good.
Respond: Thanks for praying for all the people we are teaching and things happened this week with everyone and we are just doing our best to help them move along but keep those prayers up. To answer your questions, Minatitlan is like Boise! Villahermosa is like Salt Lake so I am in Bosie and then there are a few different towns outside of Mina that are like Idaho Falls but I do love being here and just seeing so many different people.
Our apartment is pretty small but it is actually better than I thought. We have running water and a filter for our kitchen sink. All showers are cold water so that isn't the best but it is still good!
The food is classic Mexican food, chicken rice and beans but I have had a couple of interesting experiences with the food but for breakfast I usually have a banana and some cereal or eggs. The members feed us everyday but we can't eat with them so they just drop the food off which is so nice actually. For transportation we take taxis everywhere we go here in the city but if we need to travel anywhere else we take a bus and those buses are nice travel busses! And no I rode on the bus with Elder Hill and Elder Ruiz here and we are not by the beach but we have the big river in our area. The schedule is: We get up at 7, exercise, 9-10 personal study, then we leave the house and from 10:30-9.30 we are outside teaching and finding and at the church sometimes having lessons online so it is busy but it makes time go by so fast!
Also I love that quote. We talk about sacrifice a lot on the mission that we are sacrificing a lot for the Lord and it is true but I love the thought that we aren't giving up the things but we are giving them to the Lord so I love that! Thanks so much and I am glad to hear everything was good.
My Week: This week a lot happened but it made it all go by so fast. On Tuesday we had exchanges so Elder Dominguez came with Elder Ruiz and I so it was so good to have a little pressure on me to survive because I only had to speak Spanish and it was really fun and saw a lot of miracles. This guy named David, we tried to give him a book of mormon earlier in the week and Tuesday night we were walking and he was working on his taxi in the street so we talked to him and he felt so bad after we left and he didn't accept the book and said, "I felt like I needed to repent." So we started teaching him and it is so cool! The Lord knows exactly what is going on with His children.
Wednesday was a wild day as well because we got up at 5:30 and I hopped on a bus and went to a city where Elder Landrum is and met him. Then me and him went on a bus and rode to Villahermosa because we had an appointment at 12 to get our green cards. Well we were stuck in traffic for about 2 hours and got to Villahermosa at about 11:50 and then sprinted and we barely made our appointment but all is well and I am legal here. Then we spent some time together there and rode a bus back and it was a long day on a bus but all is well.
Then Thursday and Friday we did a lot of going and trying to meet with the people we are teaching and seeing if they are really ready for baptism. So we taught everyone and realized not a lot of them are ready which is ok because we invited them to grow and keep learning but it has been cool to see because the Lord keeps providing more people to teach. Also we are working a lot with members. We went out with the relief society member and it was so effective because we went to all her friends in the neighborhood and found a few people. Then on Saturday the members got together in the evening and we have these invitations for Less Active members and they went out and visited people and they gave us like 4 different families to go by and visit so it was probably the most effective thing I have ever done. The members have such a good testimony and are willing to help out.
That was pretty much the highlights of the week but one thing I studied this week in Judges 6 and 7 about the battle of Gideon. I invite you all to read it because it is so good! In the chapters Gideon is just a regular guy but is called to save Israel so he puts his trust in the Lord and doesn't hesitate to do what the Lord says and he is so blessed and has so much faith that with a small army he frees Israel. I know we don't have to be such an amazing person to accomplish the Lord's will but it is important for us to have so much faith to do what the Lord wants.
My time here in Mexico seems so short (because it is) but I have loved it. It all is something to get used to but I am so glad the Lord has put me here and I know I am here for a reason. Just like in Washington I am going to work to find the reason.
I love you all so much and thanks for everything! Have a good week!
Love Elder Reiley
